Black Lion Digital · Search Engine Optimisation · Part 03 of the system

Take the top
of the results.
Then hold it.

Keyword research, on-page, technical and content work that takes the top of Google's results for what you do, then keeps going to hold the position once it is won. Organic leads, without paying for each click, counted in the same ledger as everything else we run.

02 · Two ways to the top

Ads rent the top of the page. SEO earns it.

A search ad holds the top slot for exactly as long as you pay for it. Stop, and the slot goes to whoever bids next. An organic ranking is different: it is earned by the site itself, through the work done on it, and the clicks it brings are not paid for one by one.

Google Ads can deliver quick results. SEO is the slower, longer-lasting half: three to six months to noticeable improvement, then a position that keeps producing without a budget behind every click. That is why the two are not rivals.

SEO does not suit every business. Its return depends on search volume, competition and how your audience searches, and we look at your market before we recommend it.

  1. 01

Rented: the ad at the top

Search ads · There for as long as you pay

A text ad above the results, bought per click and gone the day the budget stops. Fast, and the right first move for many businesses; the kind the Google Ads page is about.

  2. 02

Earned: the ranking beneath it This page

Organic · Earned by the site, kept by the work

The result Google places there on merit. Slower to win, free of a cost per click once won, and worth holding because every competitor in your area wants it too.

03 · The hold

Taken, then held.

Being found is not an event. It is a position on a results page that every competitor in your area is also working toward, and the work that takes it is not the work that keeps it. Here is both, on the results page for what you do.

The position is taken by the work, and kept because the work does not stop. What it returns is the enquiry that arrives without a click being bought: the buyer searched, found you first, and got in touch.

04 · Where it sits

Part three of four.

SEO keeps you found by the people who are already looking, without paying for each of them. The rest of the system takes it from there: the page they land on, the CRM that catches the enquiry, the follow-up that books it, and the invoice that counts it. One agency runs the whole line, so no part can hide behind another.

05 · The ledger, SEO

Kept at the top, in his words.

The results that we've got has really kept us #1 on Google. We're getting a lot of Facebook inquiries from new clients and we've also moved into new markets as well.

Rankings are counted in the same ledger as everything else we run: leads, appointments booked and tracked revenue, by client name. Organic traffic and keyword positions tell us the work is landing; on their own they are not the result.

06 · How we run it

Your site. Their searches. One ledger.

Six things that are true of every SEO engagement we run, whatever the business sells.

  1. 01On your website

The work is done on your own site, so the position it earns is yours. There is no account to switch off and nothing of ours in the way.

  2. 02Four kinds of work

Keyword research first, for the searches that mean someone wants the job done. Then on-page (titles, descriptions, headers, images), technical (easy to crawl and index) and content.

  3. 03Nothing for you to write

We do not need you to write any extra content to improve your rankings. Extra content can help, and we can supply it for most common industries, but it is not essential to a high return.

  4. 04Three to six months

SEO is a long-term strategy. Noticeable improvement in rankings and organic traffic typically takes three to six months, depending on how competitive your industry is and the state of your site.

  5. 05Then held

Once a position is won, the work does not stop. The same SEO that took the top of the results keeps it there, so competitors cannot overtake you. Taking the position is half the job; keeping it is the other half.

  6. 06Measured in leads

Organic traffic, keyword rankings and conversion rates tell us the work is landing. The result is counted in leads, appointments booked and purchases, in the same ledger as everything else we run.

SEO does not suit every business. Its return depends on search volume, competition and how your audience searches. We look at your market and your goals before we recommend it, and if the numbers are not there we say so and point you at the source that fits, which is often search ads.

08 · Questions owners ask about SEO

Straight answers.

SEO is a long-term strategy, and results take time to show. Typically it takes three to six months to see noticeable improvement in rankings and organic traffic. The time frame varies with the competitiveness of your industry and the quality of your website's content and technical foundation.

No. We do not need you to write any additional content to improve your rankings. Extra content can help, and we can supply it for most common industries, but it is not essential to generating a high return on investment.

It can be tailored to almost any business or industry, but how well it works depends on search volume, competition and how your audience searches. A proper look at your market and your goals tells us whether SEO is the right approach for you, and we will say so either way.

Need leads sooner? Read about Google Ads

Google Ads can deliver results quickly. SEO takes longer and lasts, because the position it earns does not switch off when a budget does. They are not rivals, and the audit tells you which fits your market, your timeline and your numbers, or whether it is both.

Organic traffic, keyword rankings and conversion rates tell us the work is landing. The result is counted the way everything else we run is: leads, appointments booked and purchases, and what each one cost. You get regular reports either way.

On purpose. The team follows industry news, takes part in professional forums and keeps up ongoing training, so the strategy moves when Google does rather than after a position has been lost.
